Yesterday was the perfect day. I think a lot of people have ideas of what their perfect day would consist of and my idea of one has changed a lot over the years. When I was younger, it was having a day off and sleeping. When I was dating, it was spending the day with the guy I was with. When I was married, it was spending the day in bed with my husband. After my first daughter was born, it was back to sleeping! Now, I'm a single mom who works and goes to school. It seems that my time spent with my daughters consists of bath time, cooking meals, doing pre-school homework, cleaning up and sleeping. I miss the days of just playing with my kids. Which brings me to yesterday.
The Philly area got 15 inches of snow Wednesday night into Thursday. Schools were closed, the streets were impassable. The girls and I slept until 8:00 (a luxury for us!) We had breakfast together then bundled up for the snow. We had a mini snowball fight and I pulled them both on their sleds. We went inside and warmed up and played together. After lunch, we all took a nap in my bed and woke up to read some books. I let them decide what they wanted for dinner and made them both scrambled eggs as requested. After dinner I painted their finger nails and toe nails then gave Joyce a bubble bath, something she loves but Rachel doesn't. Rachel took a bath later on, then we cuddled in bed and watched The Incredibles.
It was the perfect day.

Can you teach me Mommy?

I was getting dinner ready tonight. As I was getting the corn on the cob ready for the grill Rachel came in. She watched for a few seconds, picked up an ear of corn and said "can you teach me how to do that Mommy?"
When I found out I was pregnant with Rachel I knew my life was going to change. I would be responsible for a human being. It was no longer just me I had to think about. All of my actions would directly affect her. I would need to teach her things. Me! I would have to make sure she was growing up to be a good person, among so much more. Being a mom is the scariest thing in the world, but times like tonight when I could put my four year old on the kitchen counter and teach her something so simple like how to husk corn really make it so great!
